E10: What I Wish I Knew: Sensory Processing and Adoptive Parenting
This week Dr. Laura Anderson shares part 1 of her 2 part episode on sensory processing. Sensory processing refers to the way our bodies take in, and sort, the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and touches in the world around us.
Dr. Anderson has seen daily lives in families change dramatically when parents understand sensory processing issues, and the way they impact a child's behavior. These episodes are the "How To" in helping families understand how to use knowledge about their kids' sensory needs to make daily routines easier and keep everyone in the family more regulated. Ultimately, the goal is for parents to stay connected to their kids while working toward greater family understanding, more kid "success", and behavioral change.
Stay tuned for Part 2 where Dr. Laura will delve into how you can apply this to daily life.
