E04: Raising a Strong Black Child: An Interview with Kwame Abernathy
This week, Dr. Laura is joined by a dear friend and strong wealth of knowledge, Kwame Abernathy, JD. Kwame is the youngest child of two modern-day civil rights activists, Juanita Jones Abernathy and Rev. Dr. Ralph David Abernathy. Kwame received all that he is the honest way: he inherited it. An upbringing stressing honesty, education and dedication to a movement for equality and human rights, he has blossomed with each new challenge and remained grounded and connected to his community. Kwame constantly challenges himself to operate outside of his comfort zone, travelling the world and learning other cultures.
In this episode, Kwame shares key memories from his youth and his experience with parenting strategies from an activist perspective. Together Dr. Laura and Kwame cover different ways to support healthy racial identity development in young black people that goes beyond struggle and strife. Kwame delivers his best recipes and formulas to help inoculate young black youth against racism.
